I have a headfull of cold medicine and a slight hangover. Go team.

Mogwai is one of the most well-known and prolific groups in the post-rock genre.  That being said, HWNDBYW, while good and solid as a record, just doesn’t live up to the hype.

I heard a leak of the record a while ago, and while I was excited to see what the Scottish band was up to. “White Noise” opens up the album with the expected Post-Rock jam that gets all the kids wet. Not  a bad track,  but  I was just expecting more.  “Mexican Grand Prix” is a strange, four to the four beat laden track that got my foot tapping and a head nod and is worth checking out.  The whole album has a feeling of progression, but still keeping it safe.

One of the stand-out tracks “San Pedro” has a slightly aggressive feeling to it that I wish had carried over to the rest of the record. All in all, HWNDBYW is a good piece of work by the Scottish quintet, not my favorite, but worth a few listens none the less.
