Ah…the holidays: a time for family and friends, a time for making memories and keeping traditions, and for some, a time to catch up and review all the great albums that have come out this year that I never got a chance to post. Honestly, this one ranks up there as one of the best releases of 2010 (in my humble opinion), and I think after hearing just 2 minutes of this incredible album, you’ll know why.

Hailing from Sweden, this 3-piece powerhouse is certainly not new on the scene. Since 2006, Tomas Torsson, Daniel Öhman and Niklas Åström have been putting out emotion-filled explosions of sound and energy, and Mourning Golden Morning is not even close to being an exception. Now, I’ve always had a thing against post-rock containing vocals (generally ruins an otherwise great sounding band[once again, in my opinion]), but Ef use them so sparingly but so gracefully that it’s almost as if they were meant to be there all along.

Is This Revolutionary?: The title of the Ef homepage reads “Ef- Explosions, Emotions and Energy”, and that’s exactly what they deliver with 2010’s Mourning Golden Morning. Within the first 2 minutes of play, you’ll be sucked into the feeling and the atmosphere they generate. Seriously, they have so much talent, and they are truly revolutionary in this genre.

Rating: 5/5 kegs. Yes, I went back and rated this after the fact, but I just felt that this album really deserved the credit.

If this is your first exposure to Ef, pick up their other two releases as well: Give Me Beauty… Or Give Me Death! and I Am Responsible; you will not be disappointed.
