Dryad, is an EP released by the one man Black Metal act Petrychor. This EP is quite a gem in a genre that at times can get a bit stagnant derivative. containing elements of acoustic folk and post-rock , Dryad is one of the most beautiful and moving albums I have heard all year, and yes I am talking a bout a fucking black metal album.  The first track “Dryad (I Make My Home)”  is an exercise in some of the most creative and interesting tracks I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Evoking the rainy, misty cascadian forests while bringing punishing and down right fucking harsh drums and vocals. the guitar work on this EP is superb, full of little flourishes and solos that really remind me of Mono.  Gamma Leonis and …of Salt and Sky, continue with this fresh, intimate feeling, with pretty piano parts and crashing cymbals full of aggression  it is a shame that this ep is so short.  I am eagerly anticipating hearing some new material from Petrychor.

E.

Recomended for fans of: Panopticon, Wolves In The Throne Room, Mono.
